Calculator Methodology & Sources

Last reviewed: October 31, 2026. BreedingCalculator.net builds independent game-breeding and timing tools. This page explains how our calculators use source data, what their results mean, and how we review changes to game mechanics. It describes our actual first published tool, the My Singing Monsters Plant Island Breeding Calculator, as well as the standards we aim to apply to future releases.

1. What a breeding calculator can answer

A breeding calculator may help you find eligible parent combinations, determine a standard waiting time, or estimate the time remaining after valid boosts. Those are different questions. A known parent combination can make a monster possible without making it guaranteed, and the waiting time for a successful outcome is not necessarily the waiting time for every failed attempt.

Our Plant Island tool includes a selected reference set of 15 monster outcomes. The list is curated rather than a comprehensive encyclopedia of every variant, breeding event, rare outcome, or future update. It is best used to plan known combinations and adjust standard breeding durations for eligible bonuses.

2. Source hierarchy and verification

We begin with official developer or publisher documentation for mechanics that it explicitly explains. We use community-maintained reference material for creature combinations, individual monster durations, and details not published in an official structured table. Community documentation can be useful, but it is not an official guarantee and may lag behind game changes.

These links identify where to investigate current mechanics. They do not imply that the publishers or volunteer wiki maintain or endorse this website. Because source pages can change without notice, the date above records when this methodology was reviewed, not a promise that every table will remain current indefinitely.

3. How the current Plant Island tool uses parents and outcomes

Select a target monster to see one or more documented parent pairs from the reference dataset. A listed combination is a possible way to obtain that target under the relevant game rules; it is not a guaranteed recipe, particularly for special and seasonal monsters. Failed attempts can produce different monsters and therefore different actual waiting times.

The calculator displays the target’s standard breeding time and adjusts that duration for the selected bonuses. A reported time refers to the target outcome if the breed succeeds, not necessarily the timer that will appear after every attempt. Seasonal availability, unlock requirements, monster levels, and any game-specific restrictions still apply.

4. The breeding-time formula

For the published calculator, we first determine the standard duration in seconds. We apply the Enhanced Breeding Structure and eligible breeding-skin reductions as percentage-point reductions to the same base, then multiply by an optional additional 25% boost when selected.

Calculated seconds = round(base seconds × (1 − 0.25E − 0.10S) × (1 − 0.25B)), where E is 1 when the Enhanced Breeding Structure is enabled, S is 1 when an eligible breeding-time island skin is active, and B is 1 when the applicable additional 25% boost is active. Otherwise each flag is 0. The result is rounded to the nearest second.

The structure and island-skin effects are combined as a 25% plus 10% reduction of base time, while the additional boost is applied multiplicatively. The combination is important: all three options together leave 48.75% of the original duration, a 51.25% reduction, under this model. This matches the stacking examples in the cited community Breeding Times reference. These modifiers should not be enabled unless the relevant game item or event is actually active and eligible.

5. A worked example

Furcorn has an 8-hour standard breeding time in the selected reference dataset. Eight hours equals 28,800 seconds. With an Enhanced Breeding Structure but no other bonus, the result is 28,800 × 0.75 = 21,600 seconds, or 6 hours.

If an eligible 10% breeding skin is also active, the factor becomes 1 − 0.25 − 0.10 = 0.65. The result is 18,720 seconds, or 5 hours 12 minutes. If an additional eligible 25% boost is active, the factor becomes 0.65 × 0.75 = 0.4875, giving 14,040 seconds, or 3 hours 54 minutes. These are timing calculations, not probabilities of breeding Furcorn.

6. Custom duration, examples and sharing

The custom-duration mode lets a player enter a base time expressed in days, hours, minutes and seconds. It is useful when the current game version, a particular creature, or an event is not covered by the selected dataset. The user is responsible for checking that base time and boost eligibility. The calculator does not infer an unknown parent recipe from a custom duration.

The Try Example action supplies sample settings to demonstrate the interface. Reset clears the form back to its initial state. Shareable links encode the chosen calculator settings in the URL so another person can open a comparable calculation. Do not interpret a share link as proof of a successful in-game result.

7. Rounding, local finish times and assumptions

Durations are calculated in seconds and rounded to a whole second for display. The estimated finish time is derived from the device’s current local clock when the calculation is performed. It assumes the timer starts immediately and the selected bonuses are already active and applicable. If a bonus expires, the device clock is incorrect, or the in-game timer starts at a different moment, the actual completion time may differ.

The tool does not predict hidden game-server state, eliminate chance-based results, access private game accounts, or read an in-game timer. We do not ask for game login information to run these calculations.

8. Testing and quality checks

Before publication, we check representative reference durations, special-case labels, timer adjustments, combined bonuses, invalid and empty inputs, custom entries, reset and example actions, and mobile layout behavior. The original Plant Island calculator passed local browser checks before publication, and its deployed WordPress code was compared with the tested file. These tests do not substitute for validating a live game after every update.

A calculator may be marked outdated when a developer patch changes the underlying mechanics or a reference dataset becomes disputed. We may revise the data, display a more prominent limitation, or temporarily remove a misleading tool rather than keep showing results we cannot support.

9. What is not calculated

  • Exact chances of obtaining Ghazt, Punkleton or another special monster when the publisher has not provided dependable odds for the relevant scenario.
  • Any guarantee that a recommended parent pair will yield the chosen target.
  • Hidden event changes, unpublished server-side exceptions or all possible rare and epic breeding variants.
  • Incubation or hatching time when a tool is labeled as calculating breeding-structure time only.
  • Bonuses that are not selected, not active, or not eligible for the game situation.

10. Report a discrepancy

For a useful correction report, send the calculator URL, game and version, island or environment, exact inputs, the displayed result, the outcome you observed, and an official or reproducible reference if possible. Email contact@breedingcalculator.net. Never send game passwords, account tokens or payment information.

We review reports against sources and repeat the calculation before changing a formula or dataset. Material corrections should make the limits of the earlier result clear. For our broader publication standards, see the Editorial Policy and Game Disclaimer.
